Start with the work you need to finish

Work should remain understandable without a live meeting. In this category, define success as the ability to prepare an accurate, on-brand piece of writing.

Make the next action, decision and owner explicit. Translate that priority into a requirement that another person can observe, such as completing a handoff without extra instructions or recovering a record after an incorrect edit.

Prepare a realistic sample

For this trial, use a 400-word service page, a short email and a paragraph requiring factual correction. Keep the inputs consistent across candidates and avoid real personal information during initial testing.

Run these checks

  • Provide a short brief, a style sample and a list of permitted facts.
  • Check every factual claim against the source material.
  • Ask for a revision with a concrete tone and length constraint.
  • Record editing time and any unsupported statements that remain.
  • Have a colleague in another time zone continue work from the written record.

Build a shortlist around the workflow

Jasper

An AI platform for marketing workflows with brand context and content tools. Explore it when coordinated marketing content is the primary requirement.

Evaluate how well an actual brand brief survives multiple revisions.

Grammarly

An AI writing assistant with grammar, rewriting and related writing tools. Explore it when improving work already being written is a recurring task.

Test suggestions in the applications and languages your team uses.

QuillBot

A writing toolkit including paraphrasing, grammar checking and summarisation. Explore it when rewriting or condensing existing text is the starting point.

Check that a paraphrase preserves meaning, qualifications and source attribution.

Compare the total cost

Use approved piece of content as a starting unit, then list recurring fees, usage, implementation and the time someone will spend maintaining the setup. Compare current usage with a plausible growth scenario. The lowest entry price is not necessarily the lowest cost for the complete workflow.

Decide what would stop the purchase

  • What content may be retained or used by the provider?
  • Which limits apply to your actual drafting and editing workflow?
  • Can your editor work in the applications they already use?

Write down your mandatory requirements before the trial. If a candidate fails one, record the limitation and either verify a workaround with the vendor or remove it from the shortlist. Do not let an attractive optional feature hide a failed requirement.
