Start with the work you need to finish

Context from discovery must survive through proposals and delivery. In this category, define success as the ability to launch and maintain a useful business website.

Preserve decisions, scope and the next agreed action. Translate that priority into a requirement that another person can observe, such as completing a handoff without extra instructions or recovering a record after an incorrect edit.

Prepare a realistic sample

For this trial, use a home page, a service page, a collection of articles and a working enquiry form. Keep the inputs consistent across candidates and avoid real personal information during initial testing.

Run these checks

  • Build one representative page and check it on a phone.
  • Add a content collection and create a second entry without duplicating layout work.
  • Submit the contact form and confirm the destination receives it.
  • Inspect redirects, metadata, exports and renewal costs before launch.
  • Reopen an old engagement and find the original scope.

Build a shortlist around the workflow

Webflow

A platform to visually build, manage and grow business websites. Explore it when design and structured website content are central to the project.

Have the person who will maintain the site edit a real content entry.

Framer

A visual website builder with a design canvas, hosting and a CMS. Explore it when visual design and publishing share one workflow.

Test the CMS structure and editing controls your site will need after launch.

Wix

A website building platform with design tools and business website features. Explore it when a business owner needs to build and operate a website.

Run the enquiry or purchase flow from start to finish on a phone.

Compare the total cost

Use published site and editor as a starting unit, then list recurring fees, usage, implementation and the time someone will spend maintaining the setup. Compare current usage with a plausible growth scenario. The lowest entry price is not necessarily the lowest cost for the complete workflow.

Decide what would stop the purchase

  • Which limits apply to CMS entries, traffic and collaborators?
  • What can you export if you later leave the platform?
  • Are forms, translations and third-party integrations additional costs?

Write down your mandatory requirements before the trial. If a candidate fails one, record the limitation and either verify a workaround with the vendor or remove it from the shortlist. Do not let an attractive optional feature hide a failed requirement.
